"As a health care professional with thirty-five years in this field, I have dealt with many clients who have been victims of

“Just over a year ago my father passed away from cancer, and just recently I received his gun
collection. I had begun to investigate what was required to obtain a concealed weapons permit and found that there was a
background check and training class to attend to obtain the permit. Not long after I began my search for the concealed

"I have been a member of the St.Louis County Sheriff's Rescue Squad for several years. Throughout those years I was
exposed to the pain and suffering that the families of innocent crime victims endured. I have a permit to carry.
I felt I had the training and experience to take care of myself and my family. That all changed for me a couple of weeks
ago when I got a heart stopping call from my adult daughter in the middle of the night. She just had someone break into her home. They
were scared off by the alarm, but in her moment of fear when she walked into her living room and saw the open door, she panicked. She had
no idea if the intruder had run off or was still in the house. She grabbed her car keys and bolted to her car and called the police. She
had no idea where her attacker was and if she would make it to the car unharmed. She did and the police came and she was all right, this
time. The police entered her home and went thorough it room by room before I got there with her. The thing that came to light was that her
purse was on a table right next to the forced open door. They were not after things to steal; they had been watching her house and were after
her!!
I installed an alarm in her home as a gift when she moved in. It did its job very well. It probably saved her life but there
was a big hole in her safety net. She had no personal protection to and from her car and anywhere else she was. The alarm protected her
inside the house but there was nothing to protect her elsewhere.
She is not interested in a permit to carry which led me into researching other options to protect her. As I looked into
